WHAT IS SCOLIOSIS?

Scoliosis is a lateral curve in the spine which usually occurs with a rotation in the vertebrates causing some misalignments in the body.

CAUSES OF SCOLIOSIS

Functional Scoliosis:

Due to imbalance in the functioning muscles associated with the back and doesn’t alter the structure of the bones.

Structural Scoliosis:

  • Idiopathic: the reason is unknown

  • Congenital: since birth

  • Neuromuscular: due to other conditions, it develops as a secondary symptom

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS TO LOOK FOR?

The below signs are common symptoms of Scoliosis, a person may have more than one symptom of the below.

  • Uneven shoulders (one shoulder higher than the other)

  • Uneven Hips (one hip higher than the other)

  • When standing, one foot will be turned out more and one arch of the foot is more collapsed

  • The ribs are protruded on one side

  • One of the shoulder blades is winging out

  • One side of the neck is shorter 

  • The head may be tilted to one side
